Our website offers decorative matting in the following cores: White Core, Black Core, and several types of Cream Cores. The Bulk Custom Mats are available in decorative matting, as well as Archival mats. Currently we purchase matting from manufacturers such as Crescent and Bainbridge.
  16. Are the mat boards acid-free?
All mat board stocked by WholesaleMatBoards.com conforms to industry standards. They are marketed as acid free by their manufacturers.
  17. What are acid-free mat boards?
There is a lot of confusion over the terms "acid-free". Technically, only mat board made of cotton fiber commonly called "Cotton Rag" is truly acid-free. All other mat board, the majority produced in the United States, is made from trees, which is a naturally acidic material. This mat board is treated with calcium carbonate so it tests "acid-neutral". Calcium Carbonate retards the aging process not only due to the mat board material, but the environment as well. All mat board will deteriorate in time with "rag" deteriorating the least. Please beware of products touted as "Archival Mats", as they are often standard core "acid-neutral mats".
  18. Should I use decorative mating or an archival when framing?
Bring it to an expert! There is a tremendous amount of hype and misinformation about picture conservation issues. First rule, if the art is of great monetary value, great emotional value or is for an investment, get a true expert involved. We are not experts and most framers are not experts. For true archival products you can trust, take it to a conservation expert. Conservation framing includes many factors beyond rag versus non-rag. The glues used to bind the single-ply sheets together, the type of inks used, top and bottom cover papers, and even framing materials are all conservation issues.
  19. How do I calculate the prices?
All pricing on our website is displayed after completing each step of the ordering system. Bulk Custom Mat pricing is determined on a case per case basis, and may require additional shipping and packaging costs. Please contact us for details.
  20. What is a blank mat board?
A blank mat board is a mat board which does not have an opening window. Blank mat boards are sometimes used as backing, but typically, they are for those who would like to cut their own windows.
  21. Do you have a print catalog?
No.  We are constantly adding and updating new products, and it would be very difficult to keep a print catalog up to date. We always keep our website up to date, so please check back often. If you have any questions regarding our products, please contact us.
  22. How accurate are your color representations?
While we strive to show you mat colors, styles, and patterns as best as possible, due to individual monitor setting and scanning limitations, it is sometimes impossible to reproduce these colors exactly over the internet. If you have any questions regarding colors, styles, or patters, please contact us prior to placing your order.
